Can-Am Bombardier motorcycle for sale
1982 Can-Am Bombardier Sonic 500 Description
1982 Can-am Bombardier sonic 500. It is all there, it has been stored in my heated basement for 28 years. The bike was ridden the summer of 82 then parked, ridden maybe a dozen times sand pits, forest roads & the famous old Natchez pass in the state of Washington. Find of a lifetime for a Can-Am collector.
The first year that a 4 stroke that got long shocks 11.8 inch in the front 12.9 inch rear. This bike is different than the other manufactures. Can-am used 42mm Marzocchi front forks Italy, piggy back Ohlins rear shocks Sweden, Magura clutch & brake controls USA, Nippondenso electronic ignition Japan, Sun rims USA, D.I.D. spokes, 4130 chromoly steel frame, most others bikes mild steel. Rotax motor Austria, Rotax makes most of the experimental aircraft motors, Grimeca hubs are made in Italy. Robert fenders, Quick change wheels etc. The best aftermarket parts money can buy at the time.
It has the most horsepower in its class 45hp, you can pump Rotax motors to almost 70hp. This bike is the ninth bike off of the assembly line the first year they were made Vehicle ID. # 8507-000009. I can pretty much guarantee that there is not a Can-am Sonic 500 in this condition in the world.
I have a certified copy certificate of origin from bombardier that this bike was the first one to enter the USA. It was sold in Bowman, North Dakota 5/28/82. N.D. does not issues titles for dirt bikes brought to Washington state spring 1982, in 2000 titled the bike for the first time. This is the only title the bike has had.
This is a rare motorcycle. By the pictures one can see the great condition it is in, the bike was well taken care of. This motorcycle is not for riding, it is a collectors piece. I have been watching the internet since 1996, have not seen a Sonic 500 for sale anywhere and probably will not see one again for sale.
